LIMEWASH AND ASSOCIATED PRODUCTS
Limewash Pigments are a natural colour which can be added to Limewash paint.

Limewash is a decorative and protective finish which has been traditional used for 1000s of years. It gives a beautiful matt aesthetic to walls which modern paint can not match, and combined with powder pigments can create many different colours perfect for old buildings.

Benefits of Limewash paint:

Breathable, it enables moisture that has entered the building to evaporate. Creating a healthier and drier building.
Limewash is mildly antiseptic and acts as a mild fungicide due to its high PH, it is still used in agricultural building today to help cleanse the internal environment.
Its safe and contains no volatile organic compounds.
Well prepared and well applied limewash will last usually 10 years.
Limewash is also cost effective paint, 20 litres will cover 60-80m2 per coat.
Limewash is chemically and mechanically compatible to all pourous stone surfaces.

Application Advice

When applying Limewash to a surface they must be chemical compatible and mechanically compatible. If its chemically incompatible the lime will react adversely i.e. pealing and flaking. Mechanically compatibility of the surface to apply limewash needs a sufficient level of porosity and texture.

Suitable surfaces for Limewash

Lime
Lime plaster and renders
Lime and cement based mortars and renders that have tooth and porosity
Previously lime washed supports
Masonry supports such as stone, terra cotta, brick and cement block

Unsuitable surfaces for Limewash:

Asbestos cement (Chemically incompatible)
Dry wall (mechanical and chemical incompatible)
Hard troweled renders and plasters (Mechanical incompatible)
Gypsum plasters and products (Chemically incompatible)
Previously painted or sealed surfaces (Mechanical incompatible and chemical incompatible)
Smooth surface and nonpourous surfaces (Mechanical incompatible)
Wood (Chemical incompatible, it can be used but the limewash will degrade more quickly than on walls)
